New ‘In Your Face’ blog gains readers, arouses criticism

Thousands of readers, plus a bit of hostility, greeted last week’s launch of the “In Your Face” blog about cosmetic medicine and celebrities.

The blog was one of the Register’s most popular for the week, in terms of pages viewed by online readers, but some online commentators think the world would be a better place without it.

The local edition of Metblogs, for example, complained that “In Your Face” reinforces the image of Orange County as superficial. “As if we didn’t already have a bad enough reputation as the shallow end of the pool, they give us this.”

“Is the Register’s move toward more lifestyle and opinion pieces a wrong move, or is it what everyone else but me wants? … Is journalism dead? Only time will tell.”
