Celebrity watchers have turned their attention to nose jobs.

Why? That’s uncertain, except that Aug. 29 was the 50th birthday of pop superstar Michael Jackson (left). Among the events marking that milestone was a British tabloid-promoted photo reconstruction (right) by unidentified experts of what Jackson would have looked like if he had allowed himself to develop normally and not undergone any plastic surgery.

The L.A. Times continued the nose-job theme with an online slide show of celebrities — Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Tyra Banks, Angelina Jolie, Ashton Kutcher, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston and many more— who may or may not have had a rhinoplasty.

Along the same lines, the Make Me Heal cosmetic-medicine blog publishes a long piece by rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Jason Diamond of Beverly Hills.

His essay mostly sticks to the theme “how to create a natural-looking nose that will stand the test of time, based on the structure of the nose’s cartilage, the nose’s overlying skin, and the surgeon’s own aesthetic judgment.”

But he also takes potshots at Lisa Kudrow (above) and Debra Messing (below), two actresses whom he says have had sub-par nose jobs. Diamond doesn’t explain what he dislikes about the appearance of their noses, other than to call them “unnatural” and “unpleasing.”  He admits that both women are successful and beautiful, but he states:

Being a resident of Beverly Hills I see many celebrities up close and personal. The 2 nose jobs that bother me quite a bit are Debra Messing’s and Lisa Kudrow’s. Both are obviously beautiful and successful women and most lay people may not even pay close attention to their noses. Upon close inspection both look unnatural and unpleasing to my eye and I consider poor rhinoplasty results.
