Some docs use Botox as remedy for foot problems

Feet –- not just faces — are getting treated with Botox and other cosmetic injections.

Some doctors are injecting Botox into the ball of the foot to relieve pain caused by high heels.

Others are using Botox to reduce foot odor.

Still others are injecting dermal filler to ease pressure that causes corns and bunions.

None of these treatments is approved by the Food and Drug Administration, but doctors are allowed to try them out, if they think patients will benefit.

Aesthetic Medicine News reported:

Doctors are using Botox injections to cure high-heel wearers of a condition known as “stilettotarsal,” or pain in the soft tissue of the ball of the foot.

Caused by years of tottering around on high heels, many women are forced to forgo wearing their favorite Manolo Blahniks and opt for flats instead.

The Botox is injected into the metatarsal region and plumps up the ball of the foot, protecting the nerves and soft tissue.

The RealSelf.com cosmetic medicine Web site said:

New York podiatrist Dr. Johanna Youner remarks, “The filler, Juvederm, is injected beneath the corn and fills up tissue volume that’s been lost through years of wear and tear. It’s an off-label use of filler that’s been FDA-approved for areas on the face, the nasolabial folds, for years, and we found it safe and effective in the feet.” …

And Botox? When injected, it is known to prevent excessive sweating, which can in turn, end that smelly foot problem.

Botox as a remedy for foot odor was an issue in actress Sharon Stone’s recent custody fight. Her husband said she proposed that treatment for her son’s smelly feet, but she denied it.
