Michael Jackson might have deadly MRSA infection

February 16th, 2009, 9:57 am · 22 Comments · posted by Cindy McNatt

The Sun is reporting that Michael Jackson is suffering from an acute MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) skin infection on his face possibly contracted while having his nose reconstructed. Jackson has been receiving antibiotics via drip to treat this resistant form of staph.

Mayo Clinic says MRSA can be fatal and it most often occurs in medical environments. If left untreated, MRSA can develop into a type of flesh-eating bacteria.

MRSA starts as small red bumps that resemble pimples, boils or spider bites. These can quickly turn into deep, painful abscesses that require surgical draining. MRSA can penetrate the skin and infect the bones, joints, surgical wounds, the bloodstream, heart valves and lungs.

Staph bacteria are normally found on the skin or in the nose of about one-third of the population. Staph bacteria are generally harmless unless they enter the body through a cut or other wound.

Jackson never goes anywhere without covering up his botched nose. But this is different. Under the surgical mask his skin is red and inflamed and some sources say so are his hands, indicating an infection that has spread.

Famed Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Payman Simoni shares insights on Michael Jackson’s most recent situation. His quotes here:

“Too many surgeries compromise the skin and make it susceptible to infection, as in the case of Michael’s nose.”

Dr Simoni, who has not treated Michael Jackson, predicts that if the MRSA infection affects his nose, he may end up needing total nose reconstruction.  This would involve sacrificing part of his forehead skin to build a whole new nose.

“That procedure would be far more invasive and extensive than probably all the rest of the surgeries he’s had in the past.”

Dr. Simoni says the first and even second rhinoplasties (nose jobs) Michael Jackson had were good, but apparently he could not stop, he kept wanting to change it.  The inability to stop getting plastic surgery procedures is a medical condition called body dismorphic disorder, or BDD.

Dr. Simoni says that even though the bad nose distorts Michael Jackson’s face, he could end up with a more aesthetically pleasing nose if he remakes the nose using skin from his forehead.

He is a sad, sad human being. I feel bad that in his attempts to make himself more beautiful to other people, he’s achieving the opposite result.

  • Kathleen says:

This very talented man obviously made a huge mistake when allowing plastic surgeons to keep redoing his nose. I hope they can help him fix the damage and save his health. He should very obviously sue the doctor that left him this way.

    Best wishes Michael!

“Famed” Dr. Simoni, you write … He may be famed to you, but in the rhinoplasty chat rooms he sure ain’t “famed.” You can even check his reviews on ratemds.com

  • Nav says:

I had the same type staph and it settled in my spine. He has a long row to hoe, but I went to Mayo (mentioned) and by dribbling stuff on my heart for six weeks (twice) it finally went away, but left me with livetime problems.,

    Good luck,

    Nav

How can people take one cited source seriously???
Maybe when Ebony, Jet, Essence, BET, or Black Enterprise decide to write about it, maybe then I will take it serious.

Be nice, there is no way of knowing exactly what caused this infection. I have never had plastic surgery, yet i also have facial MRSA staph infection. It is not something to joke around about. MRSA can be deadly and it is resitant to treatment. i wish michael the best of luck and he will be in my prayers.

  • justcallmelater says:

Well, everyone makes mistakes in their life and we always pay for it. We grow into our punishment so to speak by our own faulty decision making. People don’t realize that there is a spiritual connection and they will attract the wrong energy until one day it reaches a point where one is greater than the other. But that’s insane. The simpler answer is that it’s just circumstance and there is a perfectly logical scientific answer for it. Nothing magical about it. At least he better hope not.
