Carrie Prejean, 21, Miss California USA, will keep her crown, pageant backer Donald Trump announced today.  He said topless photos of her are lovely, though some are risque.

He said Prejean was not dishonest in her relations with the pageant.

He also said he hoped that Perez Hilton would return as a Miss USA judge.  A question from Hilton led to Prejean’s statement in opposition to gay marriage,  which subjected her to intense criticism.

Prejean told this morning’s press conference that, in her role as Miss California USA,  she would not be speaking out further against gay marriage, but would not change her opinions.

Her title had come into jeopardy because she did not disclose the existence of topless photos that were taken before she won the crown. The existence of the photos was revealed shortly after the state pageant admitted that it had paid for breast implants for Prejean before she competed in the Miss USA pageant.

Prejean also attracted criticism  because of her opposition to gay marriage. Separately, she worked with the the National Organization for Marriage, speaking into in favor of its latest anti-gay marriage initiative.

The organizers of the state pageant announced Monday that the pageant’s first runner-up, Tami Farrell, would serve as “Beauty of California Ambassador” in a campaign to publicize the state’s natural beauty and its “diversity in both people and landscape.”

Also on Monday, the state pageant organizers released a document that quoted portions of her contract under the headine “Sections violated by Carrie Prejean.” Those sections included agreement not to make unauthorized personal apparearances and not to “engage in any conduct … that may be detrimental” to the pageant .

In Prejean’s contract with Miss California USA, she agreed not to pose in nude or seminude photos and said that at all times in her past, “I have conducted my activities and life in accordance with the highest ethical and moral standards.”

Last week the blog TheDirty.com published some of what it said were six topless photos of Prejean.  The photos show her from the back,  holding her arm across her breast.

Another set of topless photos (see cropped version above) were  published today by TMZ.com. Prejean said those were taken about two years ago for a surfing magazine. Because it was a windy day, her breasts were sometimes exposed, but those photos should not have been published, she said today.
