IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Actress Kristin Davis, 44,  has been filming the next “Sex and the City” movie, which means she’s in the publicity spotlight more than ever.

One result was a surge of speculation by celebrity watchers that largely wrinkle-free Davis has used Botox to keep her youthful looks.

The photo that triggered those conjectures (right) shows a patch of smooth skin on her temple, flanked by wrinkles at her hairline and next to her right eye.

Cosmetic doctors in Southern California whom I contacted don’t think the photo is evidence of Botox injections, but celebrity watchers did.

Famewatcher.com published the photo with the remark, “Kristin Davis of ‘Sex and the City’ is one of the few Hollywood stars who’s praised for keeping her natural beauty but has she finally succumbed to the incessant call of The Botox … as this photo suggests?”

That Web site did suggest another possibility — “a Bad Wig Day.” It asked, “Are those creases at her hairline caused by an unfortunately placed wig, as her fans claim?”

Plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Persky of Encino rejected both those theories.

He said that “Wrinkles and skin bunching at the temple hairline is not a Botox effect,” he said. As for the wig theory, he added, “I would think that Ms. Davis would have a better wig that did not create an obvious deformity.”

Persky’s speculation: “Most likely that kind of look is from a ‘mini-facelift.’ ”

The Daily Mail in London commented:

She may have had a lifelong fear of needles. But her phobia doesn’t seem to have stopped Kristin Davis doing all she can to look good for the sequel to the film Sex And The City.
The 44-year-old actress, who plays Charlotte, appears to have had help with the fine lines around her eyes.

While filming scenes for Sex And The City 2 in New York last week, onlookers noticed a gap between lines around her eyes and creases at her hairline. The patch of smooth skin may have been treated with Botox, which paralyses facial muscles.

If there’s any reason to think that Davis uses Botox, it’s her overall lack of wrinkles, not that one smooth patch of skin in one photo.

“Being entirely without wrinkles is an unusual event not infrequently associated with botulinum toxin (Botox),” said plastic surgeon Dr. John Di Saia of San Clemente and OCBody.com.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul S. Nassif of Beverly Hills isn’t convinced.

“Botox is a possibility, but if present it is minimal, as she still shows small signs of crow’s feet,” he told the cosmetic medicine Web site MakeMeHeal.com.

If Davis is using Botox, she’s using it in moderation, since her forehead can still be expressive, as the top photo shows.
